Internet marketing good guy marketing

In times past when an expert had something to say they made themselves available to magazines, newspapers, radio and television to spread some of their knowledge to the masses. In the 21st Century this dynamic has changed.

Today experts are often found posting in the form of personal or business blogs, social networks or message boards.

These same individuals will likely produce articles of their own and make them freely available on the web.

It would seem that mentoring has found a new way to express itself. Experts seem eager to pass along information. If you’ve ever wondered what benefit there is to these experts this article will seek to explain how helping others can have a profound effect on personal success.

“Good Guy” Marketing

The primary benefit for experts is that whenever they post on a blog or forum they can place a link to their business website in the signature line of the post. This signature remains in place for site visitors, but it is also picked up as a backlink by search engines.

By helping others develop their knowledge on an issue you can also provide another series of backlinks to your website.

I suppose this may sound like a selfish motivation, but if you look historically at business it has always been driven by seeking to help consumers understand how to use your product and help them understand why your product is superior to others. This is the premise of “Good Guy” marketing.

This idea isn’t all that different from the interviews for print publication of yesteryear except that the end result can be global instead of regional or national in scope. In times past an article would include a byline on the individual being interviewed and it would typically result in interest by others in the work or product they were involved in.

Today, that process is altered in that the expert can develop information when they want and make it available to free article directories without the need for a willing publication. In many ways this scenario is much more beneficial to both informed consumers as well as the ‘Good Guy” marketer.

Business as Usual

The good thing about this Internet marketing strategy is that it can be done without a significant amount of fanfare. You can simply respond to posts, create your own posts or develop articles because it serves a valued purpose. The tag line information can be set to come up automatically. In essence marketing is taking place in an arena where you are simply sharing your knowledge with those who are most interested. This could well be one of the best forms of marketing available.

Giving customer incentives will grow you rich

Do you run a business? Is your product so unique that it cannot be bought from anywhere else? Is your price the lowest customer can pay in the market place? Is there any other reason why your customer must speak to you fist before placing order with any one else? May be you provide a great service… may be you give your customer a satisfaction guarantee that your competitors cannot beat or come any where near to.

As a business owner, you probably recognise one fact – competition is fierce. It is not getting easier to do business and prosper unless you offer your customer that no one can. In other words you must differentiate yourself from your competitors so that when they think of buying the service or product that you offer they think of you.

Business consultants offer many recommendations for doing that. Competitor analysis… branding… product-sourcing strategies so that you get them cheap…and so on and so forth!

From my experience working with small to medium sized business owners, I am certain that the following one strategy works better than any other consultant speak. Make your customer want to give you more business. If your customer is willing to come to you fist before going elsewhere, you have foundations of a very profitable business. But how do you do that? Surely it is easier said than done, right?

It is in fact easier done than said. A small business I know of operates in insurance industry. He has been in business for years so he had plenty of experience of closing the deals. Because he knows his way around the industry, he can get good deal according to the requirements of his clients for them to put pen to paper. He was doing fine but he wanted to grow faster than his competitors. So his problem was to generate leads on the front end.

Every one in his industry was advertising in newspapers and other media outlets to generate leads. He took a creative approach. He stopped advertising and started to approach his existing customers for referrals. He offered them an inducement that not many could refuse – free week long vacation for two to almost anywhere in the country in return for introductions to their friends who may be interested in his services. His existing customers were already happy with the service they got and didn’t mind introducing friends. His new customer acquisition costs came to halt and customer database started to swell. His costs of give away vacation incentives: None! This was a win-win situation all around.

Businesses do not have to come up with large advertising or marketing budgets to generate fresh business. If you already have existing customers than they can be the best source ore business. In a study published in Harvard Business Review not very long ago, it was concluded that 5% increase in retained customers increased the profitability by an average 80% for most industries. Existing customers are your gold pot. By being creative you can use that resource to get even more customers.

And yet most marketing departments spend more than 50% of their budget on new customer acquisition who are least profitable in the first place.

Money making message boards

If you surf the Internet regularly then chances are you have seen the transformation most of the forums, bulletin boards and message boards have gone through. Such sites are becoming more and more popular with many people today, including children and adults. The amount of people joining these types of sites is incredible so it is only natural for someone to cash in on this. After all, the world seems to revolve around money.

Money making message boards is one of the most well known trends happening across all levels of forums. These types of message boards offer people so much more then just a place to post their thoughts. It is a place where people can get together as a virtual community and learn from each other. Many business-minded people are jumping on the bandwagon of the moneymaking message boards to cash in on the benefits.

If you are one of the moneymaking message board followers, you will need to abide by the proper netiquette. If you have ever talked with someone online, chances are, you are familiar with shouting online. Be careful not to use all caps when posting as this is considered as shouting online and really looks tacky. Make sure you double-check your work before posting, as you do not want to post something that has typos and incorrect grammar.

Poorly written posts can be very damaging to your site, especially if you are just starting out. So it is very beneficial to proof read everything. Make sure to never flame people (verbally attack). If you do not see eye-to-eye, politely speak your piece. There is never any reason you should be rude or attack another forum poster. Never entertain the notion that foul language is acceptable in these types of forums. It not only makes you look bad, but will kill your number of posters.

You do not want to offend potential customers, so it is a good idea to do some research to see what people are posting. If you know what they want, you can make the best out of your forum by covering topics your readers and posters want. Knowing the proper netiquette can help make a moneymaking message board become something great. It is helpful to have some sort of imagination when creating your posts to ensure that you will get the maximum number of posters possible.

Do you have a good entrepreneur idea

Your entrepreneur idea is very important, as this will be the foundation of your entire business. Many people in their excitement of starting a new enterprise forget this critical first step. If you do not have a proper business concept, your whole project will ultimately collapse. Choose something you like such as a hobby or a skill you have and make this your business theme or concept.

There are very few topics you cannot form a business with, or around. It is most important to choose something that you love to do and are really interested in. This is because business is tough to do and, unless you can put your heart and soul into it, you cannot succeed.

Another entrepreneur idea is to use your own skills. This can be something like writing or design or any talent you may have. You can use this skill as a service and work either as a freelancer or set up your own service business.

Or you can set up a business using a skill you have learned from your life experiences. It can be something like just looking after your family or having a disabled member in the family. You may use this experience to have a consulting service or an advice column. You can also write a book about it.

A good entrepreneur idea is to write an eBook or have one written and sell it. It should be on a hot topic that many want to know about. Info books and videos about informative topics are always popular. You can make a website to promote these products, put in a payment system, and have it run completely on autopilot. This is one of the best ways to do a business. You can also join a membership site that offers products with resale rights and add these to your site. Make sure they are related to your product. Add to this, and you can make more info products and sell them to the same market or make new mini sites for each of your products.

Other ways to build your business are to use different business models like affiliate programs or network marketing. Affiliate programs are one of the easiest ways to build your business. You can start with them and earn a little money to launch your business or you can use them to supplement your main product.

As you can see, there are many ways to develop your business concept or entrepreneur idea, but one thing you should bear in mind is that you must try to specialize or form a niche market in your field. This is how to make real money on the Internet. Whatever be your business concept, you will need the secrets revealed in the free business plan from Quiet Achiever to discover the steps you will need to jumpstart your business.

A few tips for safe online shopping

More and more people turn to online shopping every day. The number of people shopping online is staggering. With this increase the instances of credit card fraud has also started to increase very rapidly. If someone steals your credit card nowadays, they can easily run up a large bill online shopping with fraudulent purchases. Before the days of the Internet, when someone stole your credit card, there was still a chance that someone would ask for identification before they would let you buy something. However the Internet takes that human interaction out of buying, so it is harder to stop people from making fraudulent purchases. Here are a few tips for safe online shopping.

The first tip that you should do when safely shopping online is to make sure that the web site you are shopping on is a reputable web site and that any payment screen is part of a secured site. You can tell if a web site is secured by looking in the bottom right hand corner of the browser for a padlock. If the lock is locked, then you are on a secure site. If the lock is not locked, then you are not on an unsecured site.

The next tip for safe online shopping you should make sure you do is to make your login information on your account confidential, and very strong. What I mean by strong is that your username should not just be your name, and your password needs to be something different than your birthday. A good password should be at least eight characters long with letters, numbers, different capitalizations, and also some special characters like a $. This will make it almost impossible for someone to “guess” your password when trying to login to your account.

The final tip for safe online shopping is to keep your antivirus up-to-date, and not to click on links that you are not sure about. Some of the worst viruses on the Internet today try to steal your personal information so someone else can use it to make fraudulent charges. If you keep your antivirus up-to-date, then you will have a smaller chance of getting any of these very harmful viruses.

Using online video can help increase your business profits

Marketing is a business necessity wherein tools and technology innovations are utilized to increase a business’ profitability. The relatively new online video technology is one technology example that can be harnessed to increase profits and even possibly lower marketing costs.

Now that video can be attached to almost any web page, the possibilities of using video as a marketing technique (in the same manner of television) is slowly but surely gaining ground.

- Research on the phenomenon of communication retention show that people remember only 10% of what they have read and 20% of what they hear; however, people remember more than 50% of what they see and hear at the same time – just like watching a movie.

- Marketing analysts report that companies that currently use on-demand video, video e-mail or streaming video podcasts have reported sales increases of close to 25%, sometime more. The increase in client response is attributed to the fact that multimedia rich content is a better catalyst to move and/or persuade clients towards buying a product or service because they can see its benefits in action.

- As far as online viewers are concerned, video builds credibility and trust. It is very similar to having a live person communicating to the end-user/client the benefits of doing business with somebody that they can see and listen as opposed to something that they read online. Customer rapport, trust and a mutually fruitful business relationship is much more easily established and achieved.

- Sending personnel to various locations at the same time to set up a product demonstration invariably entails a long list of additional expenses. Doing the same using online video, streaming video or on-demand video obviously lowers the costs significantly. Lower product marketing costs results into more profits for the company.

- Cost of savings is not limited to product marketing costs. Video can also be used to set up conferencing and training methods, locally and internationally. Live conferencing and training can be easily set up and synchronized between two or more groups of people, regardless if they are at different time zones, at the same time.

The above are only a few of the dollar related reasons why the emerging technology of online videos is fast becoming an effective marketing and

Blogs blogs everywhere but no good host in sight

So you have taken that first step. You are going to jump right into the blogosphere. That magical world where everyone is a journalist. Or a citizen-journalist as they are called.

A blog is short for "weblog." A technology that allows you to post your thoughts, ideas, images, videos, emotions, rants, raves and more with just a few clicks. Indeed it is the onslaught of the blog that has heralded the new age of Web 2.0

But, even if the software technology is new, it is still dependent on the age old hardware technology of web hosting. If only that was not the case.

Accepting reality and moving ahead let us see what is needed from a web host for hosting a blog. Well, mainly the requirements for hosting a blog are similar to those required for hosting a web site. The disk space, bandwidth, and speed will make all the difference. Naturally, price will be a consideration too.

But other than the usual, there are some special considerations for blogs. For one, the hosting provider should allow the use of databases. Additionally, it would be great if there was a script that the hosting service provided that would install the blog for you. Of course, if you are technically qualified this may not help much. But, if you are a newbie, you want to stay away from all that jazz and simply focus on reaching out to your readers.

I am one of those buyers how are very price conscious. But, before you go ahead and purchase hosting, let me point out that changing web hosts can be a pain. So, think a little beyond the deepest discount you can get and focus on building a long term relationship with your blog host.

To begin with make sure that your blog hosting provider has been around for some time. It does not have to one of the big names in hosting. But, it must have an established track record. Second, try to ask some pre-sales questions. If they cannot service you well at the pre-sales stage, it is unlikely that they will come to your rescue after you are already a client.

Finally shop around and ask for opinions. If you are setting up more than one blog, try more than one hosting provider before settling on one for the long term. Once you find what you are looking for, you will know where to host your next blog.

Have you been considering a career in modeling? Have you been trying to land the high paying jobs but are not quite sure how to go about it? In order to book a high paying modeling job you have to learn how to stand out from the thousands of other aspiring models out there.

The best selling e-book, The Model’s Bible teaches you step by step how to build a quality portfolio that will stand out from the rest of the crowd, a crucial step to becoming a successful model. Written by Caleb Lane, a highly sought after supermodel with over 10 years experience in the industry working with clients like Calvin Klein, D&G, Kenneth Cole, Guess, DKNY, Armani, D-Squared, and many more. Caleb has the real world experience and industry know-how to teach you exactly how to stand out from the crowd. Potential clients may look through hundreds of portfolios every time they hold a casting for a modeling job. Having a well thought out, professional portfolio is the absolute most important step in coming out on top in this process.

Upon breaking into the industry it is crucial that young models know the difference between a reputable agency and a scam artist. For example, did you know you should never pay an agency to sign you? There are thousands of unscrupulous agencies and modeling schools out there that make their money by taking advantage of starry eyed young models. What usually happens once they have their money is they never get around to even calling their models, let alone book them any jobs. Avoiding scams can be either the easiest or hardest part of beginning a career as a model.

Many new models are also surprised to find out that the best way to get signed with an agency is by using some digital pictures of yourself and an e-mail account. A method that is little known but, highly recommended and preferred among top modeling agencies throughout the world. The fact is, you do not need to waste thousands on professional photography as a new model. The secret to success is pinpointing exactly who to contact within the agencies and how to do it correctly.

Learn why all modeling contracts are absolutely negotiable. It is imperative when signing any modeling contract, whether it be for an agency or modeling job, that you read through it very carefully and know what is negotiable and non-negotiable. Otherwise, you could end up being contractually obligated for a long time to an agency that just does not work for you.

Once the contracts have been signed and you are actually on the photo shoot there are many things you need to know in order to ensure you deliver the best possible product to the clients. It is the way that a model carries themselves on a modeling job that lets everyone know that they are working with either a pro or just some kid that got lucky once. Remember, success in modeling is all about being “rebooked” for jobs. Not knowing the proper on-set etiquette could mean the difference between a long career or a short stint in the modeling industry. The best way to learn how to walk and talk like a professional model is to be taught by someone who has been there and done that in a big way.

The path to finding quality modeling opportunities does not have to be long and mysterious anymore. With The Model’s Bible you will learn everything you need to know in order to succeed as a model for a fraction of what you would spend on a modeling school, conventions, or bogus websites. Visit modeling-success. com today and see how you can instantly download your very own copy of this exciting best-selling e-book straight to your computer.

Home based internet business resources - basics

This begins another series of articles covering the basics of how to start your home based internet business. We'll cover all the bases in this first article and explore each base in depth later.

The first thing you need to do when you start your home based internet business is decide on your domain name. You should choose a name that is easy to remember and type. It is best to avoid any weird characters or dashes in the domain address. For example you would not want "your-bu$iness. com" but you would want "yourbusiness. com". From the very beginning you need to think about making it easy for prospective customers or affiliates to type and remember your site. There are tons of free searches out there to see if your chosen domain name is already taken. One is instantdomainsearch. com but you can find literally thousands out there. Play around with your ideal domain name and search until you find a combination that is available. That is all there is to it.

Once you have decided on a domain name, you need to research what keywords will bring the most potential customers to your site. Key words are extremely important. Keywords are one component that drives search engine results for Google, Yahoo, MSN and all of the other top engines out there. If you wanted to start a pet business online, you might research the following key words and phrases: pet business, online pet business, pets, online business, dogs online, cats online, etc. We'll discuss ways to choose your keywords in later articles but I would suggest downloading Good Keywords from softnik. com. The program is free and easy to use. Good Keywords will show you how many times a given word or phrase was searched on the internet in the past 30 days. The trick is to find keywords that are in the middle of the search pack. You don't want to compete with keywords that generate 10 million hits a month when you can compete with keywords that fit your business and generate 10 thousand hits a month. More on this in later articles.

OK, you've got a domain name and a good list of keywords. Now you need a solid "Host" for your website. I do not recommend free hosting. You truly get what you pay for when it comes to hosts and this is one area you do not want to scrimp on. Paid hosting sites provide quick response support. If you were like I was, knowing very little about how all of this works, support is one of the key ingredients to building a successful home based internet business.

Next I would highly recommend setting up a free email account with Gmail, Yahoo, MSN or whomever you are comfortable with or maybe already using. This email account would be used exclusively for your online business. Experience tells me it is much easier and more effective managing your business email separately from your personal email. Your online business will generate and receive a large volume of email and it is essential to be able to access and manage that email easily.

So far, so good. We've chosen our domain name, researched and chosen our keywords, decided on a host for our site and set up a dedicated business email address. It's time to take a look at email auto-responders. Very simply, email auto-responders send out an "opt in" email to individuals (leads) who have expressed an interest in owning a home based internet businesses. This is not spam! In fact, all of the auto-responders I use are 100% spam free and, believe me, they monitor it exhaustively. If the person(lead) expressing interest in internet business receives the opt in email and clicks on the confirmation link in the email, it triggers a group of follow up emails that you can write yourself or you can join a program that provides that service. The person can also "opt out" of receiving any more emails by clicking the appropriate link in the email. You can find programs that will write and install your entire email follow up campaign for free. I like that word "free".

Once you get your auto-responder working for you, you can allow your campaign to build a list of "opted in" subscribers that might eventually become customers or affiliates. Keep in mind that we're talking about sending thousands of emails to prospective home based internet business owners each week. Take a look at the number of emails you receive each week. Multiply that by several hundred thousand. It takes time to build a list of prospective customers. The key is in the follow up.

The most interesting aspect of running an online business for me is the hosts, auto-responders, lead companies, etc. that I use will also allow me to make money by advertising their services on my site. This is called "affiliate marketing" and it is huge. So, you are not only a customer of these services that are essential to online business, you now also "sell" their services on your site, even if your site has nothing to do with home based internet business resources. The cool thing is that you can be confident in promoting the performance of the services you are using because you have personal experience with them. Nothing speaks as boldly as personal experience.

This is the basic formula for virtually every online business I have researched and I have digging for legitimate opportunities for 5 years. Don't forget to look for my follow up articles which will explore in depth each of the areas we've covered in this article.

Remember, "Nothing Happens Until You Swing".

Online shopping even safer with visa verified accounts

Despite the fact that the financial institution responsible for issuing you a credit card protects your card against unauthorized use in various ways such as one being the three-digit code called a Card Verification Value (CVV) located on the rear of the card adjacent to the signature line, you can now add an additional layer of security to protect you online transactions. This convenient new program is a service known as Verified by Visa. This program protects Visa credit and check cards by allowing cardholders to add a personal password to their card – at no cost – for added security while shopping online.

A verified by Visa password helps one ensure that only you (the card owner) can use your Visa card to make a personal online product or service purchase. No, your not required to register your Visa card in this program however, if you do not participate in the verified by Visa program you may not be permitted to use your card at online stores that do participate in the program. Participating stores may prompt you during the order process to either (1) immediately register or (2) request you pay for your order by selecting another payment method.

There are two ways to register your Visa credit or check card. You can register at any time by visiting visa. com/verified. You will be asked to enter your card number and additional identifying information. A fast ID verification will take place and you will subsequently be requested to create a personal password. The second way to register is when initiating a purchase with a online verified by Visa merchant. Just as before, you will be asked to enter card details and additional identifying information. A quick ID verification takes place and you create a personal password. Once the process is completed, you are returned to the merchant site to finalize the sale.

Verified by Visa is designed to protect the Visa card(s) you already have. The password you create must be 6-10 characters in length and must include at least one number and at least one letter. You do have options to change the password you selected for your Visa credit card by visiting their site already mentioned or by calling 1-888-918-7490 for a re-registration. Or, if you bank online, go to the Personal Account Manager, access “Manage Your Profile” and select “Change Your Password” or, call the institute you favor to bank with. If after establishing your password you forget the number, click on “Change Your Password” or call Visa or your banking institution.

You don’t have to use your verified by Visa password when you use the card at a brick and mortar establishment; it’s only required when conducting transactions online at participating merchant sites. The verified by Visa will work with Internet Explorer 5x and up, Netscape 6.2 and up and AOL 7 and 8 Internet browsers. If you use your verified by Visa card at an online merchant that does not participate in the program, your online purchase would be processed as before, without requiring entry of your verified by Visa password. You use your verified by Visa card to shop with added safety from any computer that has Internet access because security is linked to your card, not your computer.

The Verified by Visa service is available for all Visa accounts for the cards issued in the United States. For additional or up-to-date information about this program visit the Visa site or your card issuer. As you know Visa protects you against unauthorized purchases and with Verified by Visa, this is your added ability to help prevent unauthorized purchases before they even happen.

The gas barbeque grills had many features you liked. The quick flame feature of the gas grills was very appealing. The quick lighting button was truly a miracle mechanism that would get your grill going in no time at all.

Many people look at size when they are comparison shopping for barbeque grills. The models of barbeque grills that were used for tailgate parties were simply too big for what you had in mind for your cooking needs. The functions and features were stellar, but you did not think you needed anything that was mounted on wheels, or one that had insulated stainless steel wells to keep your food cold.

Some of the barbeque grills that you looked at while comparison shopping for barbeque grills had brand names that have been on the market for years. Other barbeque grills bore name of a famous boxer whose name you readily recognized. Your heart problem would truly benefit if you bought any of the models under his brand. You knew you did not want a counter-top grill model for use inside the home.

One brand began to look very promising in your eyes while comparison shopping for barbeque grills. All of the grills in this brand category belong to a company that had a good history of making excellent camping equipment, and camping out was your favorite thing to do on long weekends with the kids. This grill could be purchased with a grill cover and the price was under $150, so you added this grill to your comparison shopping list.

While comparison shopping for barbeque grills you noticed a trusted brand from a leading retailer that matched the kitchen appliances in your home kitchen. The total cook area of this gas grill was 530 square inches, and it featured two stainless steel burners that heated up to 35,000 BTU’s. It was very decorative in its stainless steel top and had wheels on it. It was also priced under $150, so you added this to your comparison shopping list.

Looking at the grills side by side on the comparison shopping list, you noticed one big difference between the two that lead you to choose one model over the other. One of the items offered free shipping in the Continental United States. This is the barbeque grill you chose while comparison shopping for barbeque grills.

Viral marketing for online businesses

Viral marketing is one of the most creative ways of promoting a business. It can work wonders for any business although there are certain principles that play a lead role in making viral marketing for business websites so effective. Different businesses use different techniques while applying viral marketing to enhance their visibility and here are some of the best and time-proven techniques that can help your business too.

WOM Recommendations

WOM or word-of-mouth is still one of the best ways of promoting business and finding new clients. The very fact that it is unsolicited makes WOM one of the best advertising vehicles. If you can combine word-of-mouth with strong networking then it can reap long-term benefits for you. There are different ways you can do it and one of them includes asking your friend to recommend your business on his/her networking message board. The internet is a quick way of reaching across geographical boundaries and information regarding your business can pass from one message board to another in a short period of time.

You can also encourage your friends to send emails. You can design good e-mailers and provide information about your business and a link for your website. These e-mailers can be mailed by your friends to their friends and so on. Although it sounds a little primitive but this kind of campaign is highly effective and can create a lot of hits for any online business.

Enhance Linking

Linking is one of the most important aspects of enhancing search engine positioning and the visibility of any online business. There are different ways by which you can use your website links to get more traffic to your website. One of the ways is through reciprocal linking, which you can do by registering with some of the top directories and other non competitive sites (these reciprocal linking methods are quickly becoming less relevant and obsolete). The second method is through posting articles with links at various article submission websites. This is fast becoming one of the most popular methods of back-linking and subtle advertising. There are many article submission websites, directories or ezines that will allow you to submit your article free of cost.

The third method will be to set up different types of affiliate programs that will contribute to the increase in the number of links to your services or products. Affiliate marketing has become popular off late because it offers financial incentive to every other website who wants to link with your website.

Contests are another way of promoting your website services or products and can help visitors to use the link the contests to reach your website. People enter contests to win and if you prepare a contest where they have to visit your website using the link within the contest, then it will increase the number of hits and also bring meaningful traffic.

Free Services or Products

The last but not the least is advertising or promoting your website by offering free services or products. There are many companies who encourage 7-day free memberships, or free product trials. The word free has a lot of impact especially when you have launched a business that you would want to see as a successful venture. You can have a section that offers free Christmas cards or other greeting cards that can be mailed.

You can have sections where people can get free coupons for some of your specialized services or even discount coupons for some of your products. This will ensure that people use them and as a result, your business will gain a lot of visibility.

These are some of the best ways of viral marketing and has reaped success for many a business. These time-proven formulas are good but they need a little creativity and improvisation from time to time.

Show me the money part ii

In the second of a two-part series, the author explains how to fund your business from within, via customers, consulting, and cost control.

Sometimes it's best to bootstrap before seeking a structured financing round with outside sources. In this column, I'll talk about financing your business without going to someone else for money — via customers, consulting, and cost control.

Customers

One of the most traditional ways to fund your company is to have your customers fund your growth. Wow, what a concept! In the days of the high-tech Internet boom, entrepreneurs all but forgot what spurred a lot of the biggest businesses around: selling products to customers and funneling the revenue back into the company's operations and development. This is a great way to maintain control of your company and generate positive cash flow.

Take this example: One of the startup companies I worked with had a client that needed its sales executives to be more effective at managing its third-party resellers. The startup company had a sales-force compensation product that, with a few enhancements, would have solved the customer's problem beautifully. Trouble was, the startup didn't have the funding to take on this project. Solution? We negotiated with the customer who agreed to fund the product development.

We knew that, in time, the startup could sell this enhanced product to other companies, so it was worth what initially appeared to be a distraction. The customer paid $200,000 for the product enhancements and agreed to license it on an annual basis. The startup agreed to give the customer an exclusivity period, meaning that it wouldn't sell the product to a short list of direct competitors for 90 days.

Dollars and Sense

Customer-funded product development deals have come in handy many times. The biggest deal I've seen was an $800,000 infusion to a startup from a chip manufacturer to fund the development of technology that the manufacturer planned to license. To make this type of deal happen, you usually need a couple of customers first so that the funding customer has confidence in your ability to deliver. You also should have sophisticated board members or advisers to help you negotiate the deal if you haven't done one before. If you must offer an exclusivity period, start with three months.

If you have to increase that to six months to get the deal done, make sure it makes business sense. Get a guaranteed order size (and make it big). And, of course, have your attorney involved in the entire process so he or she can make sure product-ownership is abundantly clear. You own it, and the customer licenses it for a period of time. You will also want to make sure you're filing patents for any key technology you develop.

Consulting

If you can offer consulting services to fund the cost of operations and product development, do it. Your knowledge can be a valuable commodity. In the first example I mentioned above, the startup provided consulting on how to compensate both internal and external sales forces, how to track sales quotas, and how to administer payments. Many startups have self-funded this way.

Later, when the company was ready to release its first product, it was already in a great financial position. It had existing sales, happy customers, and a nice cash cushion. It had maintained full ownership and control of the company due to not needing outside investors. Now it could choose to take on equity or debt financing, and the company would have a higher value than if it had chosen external financing.

Cost Control

Whenever you can cut costs without reducing your ability to develop and sell products or services, do it. Potential financiers will want to know your "burn rate"—the rate at which your company is consuming cash on a monthly basis. Knowing this helps financiers evaluate the current and projected amount of cash your company will require for general operations.

If, for instance, your company has significant infrastructure expenses or complicated manufacturing, your financing needs will be larger and your deal will be scrutinized more closely. In this case, you will have to justify every significant expense and offer ideas for reducing them.

When I say "every significant expense," I mean it. Don't neglect the obvious. Full-time employees are expensive. Several roles can be filled by either part-timers or by hourly contractors. For sales and marketing needs, several companies I know have hired unemployed actors on an hourly basis. Actors are great at reading scripts and infusing their voice with enthusiasm. If managed properly, they can generate and qualify sales leads over the phone.

Take the ones with the strongest selling skills, the ones who are comfortable asking for sales orders, and have them do telephone or Web-based sales. Give them a quota. In my previous companies, we used contract salespeople and paid them commission only—20% to 25% on their sales. Contractors may not be as committed as employees, but you can offer incentives to increase their loyalty. Pay them bonuses based on results, refer other clients to them, and know what your contractors care about and help them achieve their goals. If you are a key source of business for them, they'll have a lot at stake in maintaining the relationship.

Check out Web sites such as elance. com, craigslist. org, and teamdoubleclick. com to find contractors with varieties of skill sets. Ask around, too. Through friends, we found a guy based in India for graphic design, marketing materials, and Web site design work. He does terrific work at a reasonable price.

Drop a Line

No matter which of the three Cs you rely on — and I've tried them all (often at the same time) — internally bootstrapping your business will help you keep control and will certainly put you in a powerful position. And if you do seek external financing later, you will do a better job negotiating knowing you can always walk away and fund yourself on your own terms.

Home business keys to success

Having success in the world of home business can be broken down into a miniscule form of rules or "keys" to make your website more approachable and viable. Using these core strengths will attract more visitors and keep you in the commitment of a tremendous habit that will accelerate your website credability and reliability. These tools are used by all successful home business marketers. Try to keep it simple and not get lost in the inferno of the mass amount of junk that is thrown around on the Internet.

I break this into 4 categories:

Article Submission

Blogs

Forums

Advertising

There are key elements to Internet marketing. This is the "core" that everything else revolves around. I have found this by observing, asking questions, and piggy-backing the successful home based entrepreneurs. When you have these core keys embedded into your mind and work ethic, everything else will fall into place.

Do the research as I did and you will find everything falls into these categories. Why? They all add valuable links to your website! The more links = higher SE ranking = more unique visitors = more profit for you!

For example, you can submit articles that you have written for free to article submission sites or you can pay for an article submission service. Blogs are free and easy to set-up and are very effective in putting your articles, videos, websites, etc. on the Web. Forums can also be found for free and every time you submit a topic or a reply it builds links to your website so long as you have your website in the "signature". Lastly, there are so many free classified ads services online and off that you can submit to these all day long and not even scratch the surface. All you have to do is look.

The thing is, there are some areas where free can be as good or better than paying for services. These are basic examples that anyone can use to promote any business with little or no money to invest promoting their site(s).Yes, this will take more persistence and work, but the efforts pay off over the long haul. If you want to pay for a service, check the company or sites track record, post questions to forums, and see what responses you will get. Try to use insight from those who have already took the hard road and follow the paved street they have left in their wake.

Remember these 4 core keys to home business and they will become a bountiful harvest over time.

God Bless,

Using web camera to provide fresh contents for your website

Content is what brings people to a site. Websites that provide fresh contents tend to be more popular than those that don't. Search engines tend to reward websites that provide updated contents by giving such websites a better placement in search results. Providing regular content is the best way to make your website appealing both to visitors and search engines. This will subsequently lead more people to your website.

Unfortunately, providing site content regularly is not an easy job for many people, especially if the content is in the form of articles or require programming knowledge. Even a person who is an expert in a particular field may run into difficulties when it comes to writing. Even worse, not all topics can be easily written. Clearly, fresh content is important but providing content in the form of articles regularly can be a devil of a job .

It will be a great delight if you can still publish fresh contents on your website without having to carry out too many writing tasks. Although article is the most popular types of website contents, there are other types of contents for website. Two of the them are images and videos. Notice how popular websites that provide video clips to visitors today.

Of course for some people creating video clips regularly is not an easy task too. Building a website that receive user-submitted videos seems a cool idea, but you have to spend some times everyday to check the submitted videos. In addition, you need to use a web hosting service that provides a large amount of bandwidth and disk space.

Nevertheless, every problem has a solution. With the PC technology today you may consider to make use of your webcam to develop contents for your website. It means that the content is in the form of live video feeds. There are some advantages of using this technique. First, the content will be updated regularly and automatically. Second, the content will be unique. Publishing live videos is different from providing contents which are created by automatic content generators.

Now, what kind of videos can you provide? The answer of course depends on what the main theme of your website is. If your website is about a beach vacation you can provide the situation of a beach around your home, in real-time. Another example is to publish your the dynamically updated pictures of your home aquarium on the internet. The possibilities are endless.

There are experiments conducted by some people to prove the effects of music to the growth of plants. You can of course make a similar experiment and then by using two or more webcams you can publish the conditions of two plants with different treatments, where one of them is given a music in the morning everyday. Then, just let visitors visit your website regularly to find out which plant grows higher.

A web camera is an affordable tool. Nowadays you can get it for less than $50. In addition, broadband internet connections that are suitable to provide live videos is quite common today. Finally, by using your PC, web cameras and an internet connection you can provide fresh contents for your site visitors automatically without spamming.

How to turn your brilliant business idea into a roaring success

You’ve got what you think is a brilliant business idea and you just cannot wait to start up and get going. Sounds easy too! After all, look at the many brash entrepreneurs that have emerged triumphant in spite of diving right into a new business, without giving a second thought to market potential or any other so-called business - start-up essentials. However, for every successful story we hear about, there are plenty of dreams that lay shattered and unheard of.

So, before you get into the thick of things, guns a-blazing, there are a few things you need to think about.

The U. S. Small Business Administration recommends that all prospective business owners should ask themselves these two core questions:

What product or service does my business provide and what need does it fill?

What are the potential customers for my product or service and why will they buy from me?

Do not take it for granted that people out there are just waiting for your product to hit the market. Go out there and get feedback from industry experts, business associates and other individuals. Do they think it is a brilliant idea? Would they buy your product?

Identify your target market and weigh the different factors involved, including income levels, age bracket, geographic location and size of the market you are targeting. Does your target market have the potential to grow?

Calculate your selling price taking into consideration all manufacturing and business costs as well as your profit margin. Can your target market afford to buy your product? Once you’ve got the feel of the market, go right ahead and start your business.

No matter how brilliant your idea may be, if it’s not radically new, you will always find someone else competing with you. How is your product any different from that of your competition? Assess your competition and try and determine whether this brilliant idea of yours enhances the quality of the product or service or does not make any difference at all. Make sure your product has something different that will give it the competitive edge.
